BY Online Construction Training is an online training program that prepares students for careers in the construction industry. The online class blends self-paced learning with live virtual office hours and online proctored certification exams. Students that complete BY Online will earn NCCER Core and OSHA-10 Certifications and will be provided with connection to open jobs in the construction field paying on average $16+ per hour.
The first step for all students is to participate in a required Course Introduction. This 1-1/2 hr. live, online session will provide students with an overview of the class and career opportunities within the construction industry. During this session (offered 2-3 times each week), prospective students are provided with technology requirements for the class as well as eligibility requirements for receiving tuition funding from BY Funding Partners. Students will complete the session understanding next steps for getting started on their pathway to high paying careers in the construction industry.
All students will begin the training program in a web-based orientation session. The orientation will provide students with training on using required computer applications (GoToMeeting, Google Classroom, NCCERconnect, etc.), and provide students with class expectations.
Students receive 10 hours of construction safety training through recorded videos, with opportunities for live Q&A with certified OSHA instructor during virtual office hours.
Students can receive 70+ hours of modularized construction training through a combination of self-paced online activities and in-person performance profiles. students will receive instruction and certification in a minimum of eight required modules:
Students will watch recorded instructional videos with a certified NCCER instructor, complete remote assignments through NCCERconnect and Google Classroom, and take live modular exams in an online proctored environment, using GoToMeeting. Students will also be required to check in with instructors during virtual office hours on a weekly basis.
The BY Instructor will host live, online office hours at least two times each week. Students will be able to receive live instruction during these times and have opportunities to ask questions and address any challenges or issues during their learning.
In addition to the online proctored exams, NCCER requires students to successfully complete in-person performance profiles for six of the modules: Safety, Hand Tools, Power Tools, Construction Drawings, Communications, and Material Handling. These performance profiles require students to physically demonstrate their learning, rather than simply relying upon written test for certifications. These performance profiles must be conducted by NCCER-certified instructors in an in-person setting.
ICRF will work with local partners to identify a convenient time and location to schedule in-person performance profiles that will be conducted in an environment using processes that maximize health and safety social distancing and cleanliness standards.
As students complete their NCCER Core Certifications, ICRF will organize virtual job fairs for graduates to meet virtually with construction employers with open positions. ICRF will also work individually with graduate to identify potential employers and provide personal introductions to prospective employers.
